Telltale Studio’s new entry remakes the gaming standard for the narrative-loving gamer.
Minecraft has long been one of the world’s most popular products for gamers, so many are wondering if the franchise’s newest entry that allows players to choose their own stories will be welcomed by fans.
The new version, Minecraft: Story Mode, is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Windows PC, iOS, and Android, according to Entertainment Weekly. Produced by Telltale Studios, maker of The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Tales from the Borderlands series, the game allows players to blend the landscape sculpting qualities Minescape is known for with a new narrative focus with the charm and style the studio is known for.
Called “The Order of the Stone,” the Minecraft narrative follows a lead character (male or female, depending on the player’s choice) and his comrades in their quest to win a builder competition and meet a lead member of the Order.
But when the competition goes wrong, they’re sent on a world-saving mission fraught with danger and far-flung travels.
The family-friendly action gives players plenty of dialogue and action choices along the way while sticking to the narrative quest. The voicing by Patton Oswalt, Catherine Taber, Scott Porter among others carries the story along even when the action lulls.
