The actress will take the lead role in the video game-based film
Jessica Chastain is reportedly set to star in The Division, an adaptation of the late Tom Clancy’s popular video game.
Starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, the two struggle in a dystopian New York following a smallpox epidemic. The incident has wiped out much of the population, leading to a lawless environment that must now be restored.
As the main character, Chastain is responsible for uncovering the origins of said outbreak.
Gyllenhaal is working with Ubisoft’s Gerard Guillemot to produce the video game-based film, which will be packaged before being shown to the studios.
Ubisoft Motion Pictures is also working on Assassin’s Creed, based on another popular video game franchise released in 2007. In addition, the company is preparing to take Splinter Cell to the silver screen, starring Tom Hardy.
Originally a video game, The Division is available for Microsoft Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. No Wii U version was ever released, however, and many speculate it was due to the console’s unpopularity in the marketplace. The game was developed by Ubisoft and Red Storm Entertainment.
Meanwhile, Chastain is also set to appear in Europacorp’s drama Miss Sloane, scheduled for release in December. She is also set to star in the World War II drama The Zookeeper’s Wife alongside Daniel Bruhl. Lastly, the actress will make an appearance on the gambling drama Molly’s Game opposite Idris Elba.
There is currently no release date for The Division.
