Nick Cannon’s father thinks Mariah Carey is marrying too soon

James Cannon is upset that Mariah Carey is set to wed shortly after separating from his son, Nick Cannon.

The 52-year-old father is shocked that the 46-year-old diva is already looking to marry fiancé James Packer no later than 2017.

In fact, James believes his son would have been considered a “gigolo” if he had pulled the same move. He also says that Nick’s loyalty and love toward Carey would have come into question had he decided to marry so quickly.

While speaking about the former couple’s troubled marriage, James revealed on The Howard Stern Show: “If Nick would have moved on quickly like that, so soon after the marriage, everyone in the country would have been questioning things.”

He continued: “A woman can come out of divorce immediately, people tell her to get someone else to get over it, but to a man that’s not the advice I would have given to my son.

I’ve been watching just like everyone else, someone (Mariah) is already dating before the divorce is even final. It’s different for Mariah because she’s a woman.

It could be where they get over relationships quicker and faster, then you’ve got to say: ‘Are they committed into a relationship?’ They get into relationships and break relationships. When a man is like that, they call him ‘a player’, a ‘gigolo’.”

Nick’s father also believes that he is still hurt over the breakup, but has learned to cope over time. Carey, who split from the America’s Got Talent host in 2015, still hasn’t finalized the divorce papers as of yet. James assures Stern that the lawyers are holding Nick from signing them, although the reason for this delay is unclear.
