The 23-year-old artist is said to look forward to the challenge
NBC has confirmed it has cast Ariana Grande to star in the TV adaptation of Hairspray.
The 23-year-old artist recently broke the news to fans that she is officially on the project, which is based on the 1988 film. She revealed to be looking forward to stepping in the shoes of Penny Pingleton.
“Penny has been a dream role since Hairspray opened on Broadway.(sic),” the singer tweeted.
Pingleton had previously been portrayed by Leslie Ann Powers and Amanda Bynes in 1988 and 2007.
NBC boss Robert Greenblatt is happy about the decision, revealing in a statement: “We’re absolutely thrilled to round out our all-star ‘Hairspray Live!’ cast with Ariana Grande, one of the biggest recording artists in the world.”
He continued by adding: “She’s also a Broadway baby at heart, having debuted on Broadway when she was 15, and will be fantastic in the delightful role of Penny Pingleton. We look forward to her millions of fans seeing yet another side to this multifaceted performer and we welcome her to this incredible ensemble of artists.”
Grande will be accompanied by a star-filled cast such as Martin Short, Harvey Fierstein, Jennifer Hudson, and others.
Meanwhile, the Dangerous Woman hitmaker recently revealed the perks of being famous, adding that she does not have to perform household chores. However, she admitted to feel embarrassed by it.
“I’m embarrassed but I can’t remember the last time I did the dishes or took out the trash. I’m on the road so much and in hotels all the time. I guess one of the perks of traveling so much for work is you get out of chores,” she said.
