The accused is said to have robbed her of over $4.7 million
The 41-year-old singer filed a lawsuit against GSO Business Management alleging that their employee, Jonathan Schwartz, robbed her of over $4.7 million.
Between 2010 and 2014, Schwartz used the money to pay for a lavish lifestyle and to settle gambling debts of approximately $75,000 at a Bahamas casino.
Although the lawsuit was filed in a Los Angeles court, it was ultimately settled out of the public eye and Morissette is said to be happy with the outcome. In a joint statement with both parties involved, she said, “I am pleased to have the civil part of this matter resolved.”
GSO Business Management also has managed the finances of Beyoncé and Mariah Carey.
The money stolen from Morissette were used over the course of 116 transactions and the artist presented all findings with her new financial manager. Schwartz claimed that Morissette asked him to withdraw the money for a marijuana business she wanted to invest in. She has continuously denied such accusations.
The business management company said in a statement recently, “GSO appreciates the patience, cooperation and trust that Alanis showed in allowing GSO to address this matter,” and they are, “committed to cooperating fully with any criminal proceedings that may result against Mr. Schwartz.”
Schwarz had been listed as one of the ‘25 most powerful business managers’ in 2014 by The Hollywood Reporter. It stated he was GSO’s youngest partner and someone who will go to extremes to assist famous clients.
The news comes in time for Morissette to focus on the arrival of a new baby with husband Mario Treadway. They announced the pregnancy in February and have a five-year-old son, Ever.
