The artist releases new music after a four-year hiatus.
There’s been a lot of talk about Alicia Keys lately. The 35-year-old musician has opted for a “natural look” on the cover of her new song, In Common, which she has proudly embraced.
The song is heavily influenced by tropical music and deals with the issues and challenges that the general public experiences in life.
“We all have our issues, our challenges. We are all kind of messed up and that’s all right. In fact, that’s what helps us understand each other. To me, that’s is what is so beautiful,” Keys expressed.
The single was written with the help of Grammy-award winner Illangelo, whom also produced it. Billy Wash and Tayla Parks had also collaborated.
In Common was released to promote her sixth studio album, which will be released late this summer. Keys, her husband and children had also recently appeared on an Italian show to perform two songs from the upcoming album.
Not surprisingly, she performed free of make-up to promote the #NoMakeUp movement. The artist sang In Common for the first time at the Tribeca Film Festival in late April.
Meanwhile, Keys has been discussing the motivation behind the #NoMakeUp campaign, saying, “You are allowed to say no. As women, we get into this wild habit where we feel we have to please everybody and make sure everyone feels so good, but we never look at ourselves and ask if we’re OK. I don’t want to cover up anymore. Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.”
