The shooter reportedly had several violent encounters with his family.
Christina Grimmie, the 22-year-old singer who kick-started her music career as a member of Team Adam on The Voice, was killed at a performance in Florida earlier this month. The gunman was eventually identified as Kevin James Loibl, who was tackled by Grimmie’s brother immediately after he opened fire.
Police have now learned that Loibl was reportedly involved in at least two violent incidents in the past.
The 27-year-old gunman had an altercation with his father’s fiancée a few years ago, resulting in a broken wrist. Another incident involved a heated and physical argument with his father in 2014. The police were called but no arrests were made in either incident.
The night of the event suggests that the shooter traveled from St. Petersburg, Fla, to attend the concert with the intention of killing the up and coming artist. He planned to return home afterward; as Christinia’s brother intervened, however, Loibl turned the gun on himself and died at the scene.
Grimmie’s brother Marcus expressed his feelings on Facebook, adding: “Christina was more than my sister. She was a partner in life. A superstar. A goofball. Introverted. And a friend to everyone. Genuinely. But above all…she was my baby sister. She loved the Lord and her family and was always there for me and I honestly don’t know what I’ll do without her. The support has been crazy and I do feel a peace. I just don’t have any words. I love you all.”
Adam Levine, her coach on The Voice, told the family he would pay for all funeral expenses. Her appearance on the show led to a large following and the release of her first single.
