Aykroyd: “It has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films…”
Dan Aykroyd, who starred in the original Ghostbusters film, declared himself a fan of the upcoming all-girls remake. He recently assured movie-goers that they will enjoy the modern reboot (and perhaps even more than the first two entries) via social media.
“Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both female and male, it has more laughs and more scares than the first 2 films plus Bill Murray is in it!” Aykroyd positively posted on Facebook. “As one of millions of man-fans and Ray Stantz, I’m paying to see that and bringing all my friends!”
It should be noted that Aykroyd served as executive producer on the female-led reboot.
The new Ghostbusters is a supernatural/action/comedy mix following a group of hunters in charge of cleaning up a ghost-infected city. It stars Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth.
Despite Aykroyd’s encouragement, the new film has generated a fair amount of negative feedback from the general audience before its official premiere. In fact, the first trailer went on to become the most disliked preview in YouTube history. On the other hand, fans have ‘liked’ it better on Facebook, successfully overshadowing much negative reaction on the social network. A second trailer was released recently, which first appeared on social giants Twitter and Facebook.
Most of the original cast members are set to make an appearance on the new film, including Dan Aykroyd himself. Fellow member Rick Moranis, however, passed on the offer.
The last theatrical film was released in 1989 and proved wildly profitable, making fans wonder why a third entry would take so long to be released. Ghostbusters will be haunting theaters this July 15.
