From X-Men: Apocalypse to Finding Dory, this summer brings a diverse lineup for everyone.
Although it’s been a fairly cold spring throughout much of the country, when the warm weather finally arrives, it also brings a multitude of highly anticipated summer movies. Like many summers before, this year’s lineup includes a list of sequels that have spent years in the making in May and June alone.
Starting May 27, X-Men: Apocalypse brings a new cast of superhero mutants to the big screen, including Jennifer Lawrence and Olivia Munn. Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass also opens, with Johnny Depp reprising his role as The Mad Hatter.
Moreover, Andy Samnberg takes on the role of a boy band singer in a mockumentary titled Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping on Jun. 3. The wide range of genres continues with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles along with Out of the Shadows, also opening on said date.
Warcraft, a film based on the popular video game franchise, opens Jun. 10 hoping to excite avid gamers worldwide.
The impressive cast, including Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Daniel Radcliff return for Now You See Me 2 on the same day.
Jun. 17 then brings a sequel 13 years in the making. In Finding Dory, Nemo, Marlin, Dory, as well as old and new characters go on another adventure under the sea in search for their long-time friend.
Another sequel, Independence Day: Resurgence, opens on Jun. 24 along with Free State of Jones (starring Matthew McConaughey, which already has movie critics buzzing about a potential Oscar).
Last but not least, The Shallows closes out the month of June’s anticipated films with Blake Lively struggling to survive against a great white shark.
