This comes in light of a defamation lawsuit where seven women accused Cosby of lying about sexual assault.
The Associated Press had recently reported that Bill Cosby’s wife, Camille Cosby, would not answer many questions during the deposition of the defamation lawsuit filed against her husband.
The actor’s wife of 52 years seemed combative during the intense questioning. Although she is Cosby’s business manager, hence the reason for the deposition requirement, her lawyer cited marital privilege for the majority of the questions asked of her.
Marital privilege protects spouses of the accused, allowing them to keep conversations or opinions to themselves.
Many of the questions were regarding Camille Cosby’s opinion about him using his position as a celebrity to manipulate young women and act with a lack of integrity. These were all questions she either refused to answer or stated she had “no opinion” regarding his actions.
The line of accusations seemed offensive to Camille Cosby, with her answering, “Don’t lecture me. Just keep going with the questions.” Additional subjects also covered an extramarital affair many years ago when Camille was asked about Shawn Thompson.
Thompson’s daughter, Autumn Jackson, attempted to extort money from Bill Cosby after threatening to go to tabloids claiming she was Bill Cosby’s daughter, though she was later convicted in 1997 for it.
Lawyer Joseph Cammarata also asked Camille Cosby, “Was it a big deal when this came up in the 1970s that your husband had an extramarital affair and potentially had a daughter from that extramarital affair?” Cosby replied, “It was a big deal then, yes.”
Needless to say, Cammarata received very little information from the deposition.
