The 46-year-old singer joins a list of winners including Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, and Mary Dawson.
Gwen Stefani was recently awarded a Golden Mickey in recognition of her charitable work over the years. The prestigious Hero Award, presented by Radio Disney at the Radio Disney Music Awards, led to a standing ovation for Stefani with beau Blake Shelton proudly watching from the audience.
The singer spoke for the celebrity television show, Extra, and opened up to different types of music. “The crazy part is as soon as I got on The Voice, it forces you to be open to so many different genres of music and discover interest in different voices.” The 46-year-old admitted she wasn’t as open to other musical genres until the show.
Stefani and Shelton had previously written a song and sang it together on his new album, “If I’m Honest.”
“I fantasized about writing with somebody in country music. I know the writers are so good, they’re such storytellers and I love that; so the fact that we wrote a song together is a shock and out of nowhere and he’s an incredible writer and such a talented guy. I feel so honored to be part of it,” she said.
Stefani, who has been in the music business since she was a teenager, felt blessed just being a part of music as the past year has been tough for the singer. After her divorce from Gavin Rossdale, her whirlwind romance with Shelton makes her and him one of the most talked-about celebrity couples over the past year.
Previous award winners include Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, and Mary Dawson.
