The recalls for GoGo squeeZ applesauce and Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets are both voluntary at this time.
Two different companies have issued voluntary recalls of foods popular with kids, chicken nuggets and applesauce. The recalls come from Materne North America Corp. for its GoGo squeeZ applesauce, and Perdue Foods LLC, for their Applegate Farms chicken nuggets.
According to the FDA, the GoGo squeeZ recall is due to “potential adulteration from food product residue.” No one has yet reported illnesses connected to the issue. The residue was found in two product pumps at the Traverse City, Mich., plant by the Michigan State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development during a routine inspection.
Materne is voluntarily removing the pouches with affected codes from store shelves while they investigate the source of the problem. The packets under scrutiny have a Best Before Date of 2/4/15-3/4/17. There is also a 5-digit production code beginning with “US” and followed by 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07 or 08. The number appears on the bottom of the box or the back of the pouch. The products which are labeled organic are not affected by the recall. Consumers who find those pouches are asked to contact GoGo squeeZ at 1-844-275-5841, or on the website at www.gogosqueez.com to request a replacement voucher.
The chicken nuggets under voluntary recall may be contaminated with “extraneous plastic material,” according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. The boxes in question are Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets, packaged in an 8-oz container holding approximately 18 pieces. They were produced on Sept. 28, 2015 and have a Best Before Date of 9/27/2016. Inside the USDA mark of inspection appears the establishment number P=2617.
The chicken nugget problem was found when complaints began to come in from consumers who had found small, solid, clear plastic inside the food. No adverse reactions have been reported due to consuming the products, but the public is urged not to consume them. Return them to the place of purchase or discard them. Applegate Consumer Relations may be contacted at 1-866-587-5858. More information is available on the Applegate website.
