This marks the actress/singer's first-ever role in a superhero show.
After a rough year following the death of her father, Vanessa Hudgens is set to take on her next gig. The 27-year-old actress/singer has been given a starring role in the DC Comics comedy series Powerless, with no air date yet scheduled.
The new show takes place at a busy, sometimes dysfunctional insurance company and follows the life of a rather normal person living in a world composed of superheroes, anti-heroes and villains.
Hudgens will take on the role of Emily Locke, a claims adjuster who enjoys the job as it allows her to help people in her own way. However, her daily work routine gets increasingly more difficult due to the disruptive life caused by the many superpowered citizens that live in and roam the city.
Powerless is being penned by Ben Queen, best known for his work on A to Z and Cars 2. He will also serve as executive producer alongside Michael Patrick Jann, who is responsible for directing the pilot. Christina Kirk has been cast to co-star, with more actors yet to be announced.
The High School Musical alum recently portrayed Rizzo on Grease: Live, earning her critical acclaim for the performance. It is worth noting that this happened merely one day after her father had passed away from cancer. This would be Hudgen’s first small-screen role as a regular, should the network place a full season order.
Powerless would become DC Comics’ first half-hour series on television. The comic book giant continues to expand its assets through multiple networks, with various established shows on the likes of CBS, FOX, and the CW.
