Following a fatal crash with a Walmart truck a year ago, comedian Tracy Morgan is now back to business and will be returning to comedy on Monday. He was compensated out of court by Wal-Mart following the serious injuries he sustained in the accident, even though his friend comedian James ‘Jimmy Mack’ McNair lost his life to the crash.
Forty-six-year-old Morgan has sustained considerable head injury and broken bones, and he was in coma for several days after the accident. He remained in hospital for several months, but is now much better even though he still leans on a stick and occasionally experiences nosebleeds and headaches.
Accompanied by his lawyer, Benedict Morelli, Morgan said on NBC’s “Today” show that he loves comedy and would sure return to it, but that he needs to heal first because he is not his old self yet. He promised to make his fans have the full him when he is back again, and said he couldn’t wait to start over again.
He however lamented the loss of his friend Jimmy Mack whom he said was a jolly good man. Morgan said broken bones can heal but never the loss of Mack, whose two children Danita and Jamel received $10 million as compensation from Walmart to settle out of court.
What Morgan got from Wal-Mart remains undisclosed, but lawyer Morelli said Walmart’s Chief Executive Doug McMillon would be meeting with Morgan later this week to personally apologize for the crash.
The fatal crash occurred on June 7 along the New Jersey Turnpike. Morgan is however full of appreciation to the medical team that treated him in hospital, as well as the drivers and police officers that came to his rescue after the crash occurred.
