A four year old Philadelphia girl who was craving for a slushie at 3 in the morning sneaked out of home all by herself in her purple raincoat and snow shoes. Luckily for her and her parents, she was reunited with the family within a few hours- unharmed! Thanks to the driver of the bus where she had hopped in.
Annabelle got up in the dead of the night on Friday and wanted a slushie. And she wanted her midnight snack so bad that she put on her raincoat and snow shoes and hopped on to a Philadelphia bus.
The tiny girl can be seen acting cheerful in the surveillance footage. She shocked some of the passengers as she hopped inside the vehicle all by herself at that odd hour. She was later seen with her feet dangling off the seat as confused bus riders looked her way. Bus driver Harlan Jenifer then noticed the kid and pulled over, called his control center and awaited authorities.
Jenifer, a father of three, says the girl swung her legs in a seat as she chanted, “All I want is a slushie.”
“I was like… oh! You got to be kidding me! Not at this time of the night… 3 o’clock in the morning?” Jenifer says, “She’s such a small little thing, it kind of just shocked me.”
Annabelle’s co-passengers could be seen talking to her and comforting her while Jenifer called the cops. The police took the kid to a hospital where she was reunited with her family.
All this while, as the child went around the city, her parents had no inkling about the adventure she was up to till they were informed by the cops. Her family didn’t know she had awoken and unlocked the backdoor to start her trek during a downpour early Friday.
Timothy Ridgeway, her father, says it’s only too easy to imagine how differently this could have turned out.
“My mind is wanting to go places, it’s hard not to” said Ridgeway, “What if? What if? What if? Thank God for the bus driver,” He said.
“And the people on the bus,” added Jaclyn Mager, her mother.
“Mom, can you take me to Wawa and get me a slushie?”the little girl again asked her mom as she talked to the media later during the day.
“I will take you to Wawa and get you a slushie,” Jaclyn responded. “But listen, promise me next time you’ll wait for me, okay?”
“Yeah,” Annabelle agreed, giving her mom a hug.
Jaclyn says that this will be Annabelle’s first and last solo adventure. She repeatedly thanked all who helped bring her home safely.
“There are no words, he saved my daughter’s life and I’ll be forever grateful,” said a much relieved Jaclyn.
The driver, on the other hand, says that inspite of being worried for the safety of the child, she found her solo trek in the dead of the night funny.
