Dakota Meyer and Bristol Palin engaged: what you don’t know

Wedding bells are in the air for former Alaska governor Sarah Palin eldest daughter, Bristol Palin, and renowned U.S. Marine hero, Dakota Meyer. Bristol broke news of her engagement on her blog saying,

‘Last night, Sgt. Dakota Meyer Proposed and I said yes!!!’

The announcement has stirred a bit of media buzz not only because she is the daughter of a former vice presidential candidate, but because of a number of things that many people might know about the couple.

Bristol is now engaged to a military hero, Meyer 26, who was awarded a top military award, Medal of Honor, for saving 36 marines, army soldiers and Afghan soldiers in the Afghan war in 2010. The well-spoken former Marine is reported to have aided the evacuation of his fellow servicemen from a firefight against the Taliban.

Bristol, on the other hand, comes into the limelight as reality TV star having also competed in two seasons of Dancing with the stars. Her life as an unmarried mother of a six-year-old son Tripp has been a well-documented fact in Lifetime reality series. She has also written a book about her life and raising her son called ‘Not Afraid: My Journey So Far.’

The engagement has also received media publicity because the mom (Sarah Palin) posted the engagement news on her Facebook page with a link to her daughter’s blog post. Bristol and Kentucky native, Meyer are believed to have met because of the mom’s TV show after Meyer came to film one of the episodes of Amazing America.

The engagement could not have come at the right place, Meyer popping the question at a Rascal Flatts concert on March 13th with the band consequently dedicating the newly engaged couples their hit song ‘’Bless this Broken Road.

Just like Bristol, Meyer is also an author having written his own memoir titled ‘Into the Fire’ an account of his most extraordinary battle in Afghanistan.

The engagement essentially points to the first marriage of the two although Palin was previously engaged to Levis Johnson, the father of his six-year-old son, Tripp.
