Apple CEO Tim Cook came out with an interesting piece of information regarding the company’s smartwatch device. Apparently, there’s a chance in the future the Apple Watch could take the place of car keys, which could be a real sign Apple is truly working on an electric car for 2020.
Until the first possible Apple Car is released to the market, the Cupertino giant might not activate the feature to allow the smartwatch to turn on cars. For the time being, according to Tim Cook, the device is designed for fitness, reading messages among other neat things.
When it comes down to battery life, potential users could be turned off by the fact that it will only last for a day. It means every 24-hours or less, users will have to recharge, but the good thing is that it takes less time to charge when compared to the iPhone 6.
Cook believes people will find a reason to like the Apple Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL) Watch just as they have found reasons to like the iPhone line of devices over the years.
“This will be just like the iPhone: People wanted it and bought it for a particular reason, perhaps for browsing, but then found out that they loved it for all sorts of other reasons,” he told the British newspaper.
While this could be true, we have to point out that the iPhone is in many ways different when compared to the vast amount of Android and Windows Phone devices. We can’t say the same for the Apple Watch, because it looks more or less of the same when compared to the Google’s Android Wear based smartwatches.
Even the Microsoft Band is a huge differentiator, so in our minds, Apple has a long way to go before it can truly have a unique smartwatch on the market. Despite the lack of originality, we still expect the Apple Watch to sell well, and help push the smartwatch market into the big league.
