The GoDaddy advertisement that was scheduled to run during the Super Bowl has been withdrawn from telecasts. The move comes after the ad was released online on Tuesday. The outrageous advertisement revoked the sentiments of millions, especially animal rescue organizations. The unexpected outrage was enough for the company to pull it from run in the Super Bowl.
The Internet domain registrar, GoDaddy, is always known for its outrageously unacceptable Super Bowl commercials. However, this time, the advertisement caused a lot of outrage on social networking media. The company had aired a 30 seconds ad, titled “Journey Home” on YouTube on Tuesday. The ad features a puppy that journeys back home alone after getting separated from its owners. In the end, as the puppy reaches home, its owners are happy to see it back, but for the wrong reasons. It was not their love or the time that they missed it that made them happy to see it back, but the fact that they had sold it online and now would be able to deliver it.
The climax hurt the sentiments of animal lovers and rescue organizations, who complained that the commercial evoked puppy mills. As a result, GoDaddy, CEO, Blake Irving was forced to call off the scheduled ad. Within hours after it was telecasted on YouTube, Irving announced that the ad will not fill the 30 seconds spot in Super Bowl.
Irving however was not very pleased with the feedback he received favoring the sentiments of animal lovers. He argued that people failed to see the humor part of the commercial, which was only aimed at making them laugh. However, he did acknowledge that the company underestimated the emotional chord that the ad had the potential to hit.
GoDaddy CEO Irving did not mention if the company is planning a replacement for the commercial, but he did emphasize that people should expect to see them in the event.
