India won the toss and elected to bat first in the 1st ODI against West Indies.
After 35 overs, the West Indies score was 188/3.
The two teams kick off their five match ODI series with the first match today on October 8, 2014 at Nehru Stadium, Kochi.
One of the things that can mar on what can be an exciting cricket day is the weather. With thunderstorms forecasted for most parts of the day, it remains to be seen if both sides can get the right chances.
Keeping the preparations for 2015 ICC World Cup in mind, this is going to be the last series in the country for the hosts, but the previous records against the Caribbean should keep them on toes.
India will play this series after a mixed bag series in England, but they did win the ODI there, which should be helpful. Kuldeep Yadav has been brought in, and also there is Murali Vijay who has replaced the injured Rohit Sharma.
The match will be live on Star Sports in India and Ten Sports in Caribbean. Fans in South Africa can watch the match on SuperSport, while Sky Sports will telecast in UK. Willow TV will offer the telecast in US and Canada.

Changes have also been seen in the guest side, where Chris Gayle is out die to an injury, which makes space for Lendl Simmons, who has found form in the recent CLT20.
In terms of changes, West Indies are reeling under the loss of missing their star spinner Sunil Narine, who has been out for illegal bowling action. In all likeliness, Sulieman Benn will be brought in as a replacement.
On the paper, the hosts seem better, especially with the West Indies missing many of their key plays, and the team itself has underperformed in recent times.
