Frozen vegetables sold at Costco stores are being recalled by a frozen foods company after it is thought there could be a possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
CRF Frozen Foods is in the process of recalling 15 different frozen vegetable products after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) detected Listeria in the organic petite green peas and organic white sweet cut corn according to Fox News.
So far, no one has reported any illnesses and the recall is just a precaution. Listeria can cause serious problems in vulnerable people such as children, the elderly and pregnant women. Healthy individuals could still be affected with symptoms of high fever, nausea and diarrhea.
The affected products were sold between September 13, 2015 and March 16, 2016.
A full list of the recalled products from the FDA can be found here and customers are urged to return any listed products they have purchased and to not consume them. The items will be refunded or discarded.
This comes after the FDA cracked down on the transportation of frozen foods to increase the standards of food in stores. Michael Taylor who is the FDA deputy commissioner, announced that standards of food needs to be addressed.
“[T]his final rule will help to ensure that all those involved in the farm-to-fork continuum are doing their part to ensure that the food products that arrive in our grocery stores are safe to eat.”
