A Utah couple has a lot to be thankful for this Christmas Eve. Not only are they new parents to a newborn baby girl but also grateful to the 911 dispatcher who helped saved the infant’s life just minutes after she was delivered into the world, enroute to the hospital.
Thinking they could make it to the hospital in time for the birth, husband, Shay Allred continued driving because they were “so close to the hospital,” guided by the assistance of newly hired dispatcher William Kalaher. According to ABC News, the events unfolded very rapidly after that.
Mom, Kristin Allred said the babyjust would not wait and then she felt the urge to push “from when we started talking to 911, within a minute I had given birth.” Kristin immediately placed the infant on her chest while husband Shay continued driving toward the Salt Lake City hospital where they had planned to deliver the baby. However, they discovered the littlest addition to their household was not breathing and luckily for them, Kalaher was still with them on the line.
Kalaher’s calm demeanor helped them through the ordeal. He instructed them how to position the baby so she could breath. The umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck and the dispatcher, who began the job only two weeks ago is credited with helping to save the baby girl’s life. Her parents named her Anne.
Although Kalaher only just began the job two weeks ago, his training took over without incidence, His coolness in the situation helped the Allred’s to stay calm during the “scary delivery.”
