Skywatchers are in for an awesome treat this upcoming weekend: not only will they get a lunar eclipse, but a super moon as well.
And you won’t need a telescope, everything will be visible with the naked eye, according to a CBS Local report.
It will be the second super moon of the year, with the last one happening in August. It will take place Sept. 27 on Sunday evening, and the last super moon of the year will happen in late October.
A super moon is when the moon is at its closest point to Earth, meaning it is bigger and brighter than usual.
It will also be a lunar eclipse, or a “blood moon.” The moon will glow a fiery reddish orange as the Earth’s shadow falls upon it, making it both giant and red — a very rare event that will next happen in 2033.
