Onam, the most awaited festival of Kerala, has sparked off on Saturday, September 06, 2014. The main highlight of the festival is easily ‘Onam sadya’, which is the noon meal featuring 26 dishes!
For those who live in Kerala, this is the only festival that moves beyond caste, religion and other differences to be celebrated with the same love. On the other hand, people around India prefer to head to one of those restaurants where ‘Onam sadya’ is being offered.
Onam is the harvest festival of the state and starts off on September 6 with the first Onam. The next day is the Thiru Onam, while the third and fourth Onam will be celebrated the following days, as a part of the 10-day festival. Check Onam SMS here.

For those not known to ‘Onam sadya’, the noon meal consists of veggies, pickcles, chips, papad, aviyal, dal, rasam, ghee, sambar and lot more things. There is also a series of payasams included in the meal.
