In an amazing turn of events, a chunk of rock with some strange coloring and stuffed with reportedly 30,000 tiny diamonds has been located in Russia in a mine.
Found in the Udachnaya diamond mine located in Russia, the red and green colored rock resembling like a ornament rock has stunned one and all.
A report in Economic Times reported that geologist from the University of Tennessee has been quoted that the rock has 30,000 “perfect octahedrons”, which seemed like they formed instantly.
Larry Taylor, the geologist, further said that the concentration of the tiny diamonds in the found rock is massively greater than what mostly is found in different typical ores of diamond averaging 1-6 carats for a ton.
The report further said that the thousands of diamond often cluster together in band, and the rock found had clear crystals which were 0.04 inch tall and shaped like octahedral.
This simply meant the crystals are shaped like two pyramids, which have been glued together at the base.
The newly found rock, which has left many questions unanswered, will now be used for studying as it has been donated. The tiny size of the diamonds leave no room for using them as gems, the report said.
The Christmas coloring is unusual in the rock, and the huge amount of diamonds can lead to many clues, which will be very helpful in understanding geologic history of the earth.
Details on the origin of such gemstones will also find some new direction, it has been assumed.
