According to police reports, the nature of Nick Gordon’s relationship with Bobbi Kristina Brown has been a subject of great controversy following his discovery of the latter face down in a bath tub in her home in Georgia last week, and they are set to work unraveling the mystery of what actually exists between them.
Brown is 21, and Gordon 25, and they had posted online in 2014 that they were married; but her father, Bobbi Brown’s lawyer, Christopher Brown, refuted the marriage claim and stated that, “To correct earlier reports, Bobbi Kristina is not and has never been married to Nick Gordon.”
If her father would deny that Bobbi Kristina Brown was married to Gordon, one thing no one could argue is that the two were romantically involved for nearly three years; although their marriage claim took place after Whitney Houston’s death in February 2012.
How the relationship began is not hard to understand. Whitney Houston accepted Nick Gordon into her home when he was just 12 raised him just like her own son. However, it appeared the love relationship between Nick and Kristina started soon after Houston’s death.
“I’m tired of hearing people say, ‘Eww you’re engaged to your brother or if Whitney was still alive would we be together or would she approve of this.’ Let me clear up something. We aren’t even real brother and sister, nor is he my adoptive brother.” Bobbi Kristina had posted on Facebook in 2013; and she added that her mother would approve of the relationship if she was alive.
But this union does not just sit right with family members. “It just didn’t sit right with me,” said Pat Houston, Whitney Houston’s sister-in-law, last year. “I always looked at them as being, you know, the brother-and-sister type. I just did not see the relationship moving in that direction. [Bobbi Kristina] had to endure many, many things. I can only continue to be the auntie that I am, and that’s try to love her, try to give her the right advice.”
But just as Kristina maintains her mother would approve of the union, Gordon said he is only fulfilling an oath to the memory of Houston. “[Whitney] made me promise several times to look after Krissy. I will never, ever, ever break that promise,” he said, and also added that they got Cissy Houston, Whitney’s mother’s blessing. “We saw her at our cousin’s sweet 16 and she gave us her blessing,” Gordon said.
Gordon has had a few brushes with the law. In August 2014, he was arrested for DUI after his car hit a curb and overturned. He was also charged with failure to maintain a lane and driving with a suspended driver’s license. Gordon later tweeted that “no toxins were in my blood” after the incident, and he noted that he never took any breath test after his arrest.
He was also arrested and accused of reckless driving and over-speeding in 2012, and while that case remains open, the courts and his lawyers failed to provide any information regarding the case.
