Tim Cook has recently revealed in his biography on Steve Jobs that he had once offered help for the latter’s liver transplant. Cook had offered his liver to Jobs, before the cofounder of Apple Inc. (AAPL) passed away. However, the book stated that the offer was rejected by Jobs.
Steve Jobs was angry on this decision, the book stated, and he straightway rejected Cook’s request. Certainly, he was against this procedure to extend his life, since he was down with pancreatic cancer.
Jobs Rejected Offer
Cook mentioned in the biography “Becoming Steve Jobs” that Jobs cut him off and rejected the offer made, even before the words completely came out of Cook’s mouth. Rick Tetzeli and Brent Schlender would be releasing the autobiography later this March.
Cook said that Jobs was adamant and he never wished to do that. Every time Cook or anybody else came up with a solution for Jobs, he used to say that he will never do that; he will never go for extending his life by taking a part of Cook’s liver.
Cook had similar blood type as Jobs – the rarest one and hence he was compatible to donate a part of the liver to Jobs. Liver can regenerate over time and hence partial transplant from a donor who is alive, is deemed to be a successful one, in most cases. Despite asking and advising time and again, Jobs opted not to take the idea of borrowing some part of Cook’s liver.
Cook Was Ready
Excerpts of “Becoming Steve Jobs” were released lately by Fast Company – a magazine. The excerpts clearly hinted that Cook was taken aback by Jobs’ decision and his adamant attitude. While trying to cajole Jobs, Cook mentioned that he had a medical check-up – the report clearly stated that Cook is completely healthy and can donate liver to Jobs, without risking himself. Steve Jobs yelled as a response, hushing Tim Cook.
