Miss New York Kira Kazantsev was crowned as the new Miss America on September 15, 2014, marking the third consecutive year when the contestant from New York won the crown.
The event which was held at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall saw aspiring lawyer Kazantsev taking over the title from Nina Davuluri, the previous Empire State beauty queen.
Taking idea from “Pitch Perfect”, Kazantsev stunned everyone in the talent section where she sang “Happy”, the feel good song by Pharrell while a red plastic cup on the floor.
The 23-year old Kazantsev was seen in a custom gown in Champaign shade by popular designer John Paul Ataker, who is also from NY.
The Hofstra grad also went on to say many serious things where she said that female US senators should always urge their counterparts to come forward for combating sexual assault in the military. Kazantsev has been in a abusive relation herself when she was in college.
Kazantsev also said to the media that she has been accepted to the Law School of Fordham University and plans to attend the same.
The blonde beauty is native to California and has been in New York for just four years.
New Yorkers have taken six titles in the pageant’s history and ties with other states like Oklahoma, Ohio and California for maximum titles.
Miss Virginia Courtney Paige Garrett was crowned the first runner-up. The Miss Congeniality crown went to Jacky Arness, who is Miss North Dakota.
