Today, LG Electronics officially announced the LG Watch Urbane, and they have plans to unveil it at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. LG is planning to bring the classy and sophisticated look to the smartwatches, it seems like Rolex or Tag Heuer entered the smartwatch battle. The smartwatch will be an upgrade to the LG G Watch R, which is also a pretty good looking smartwatch, but the new version is beautiful enough to put all other smartwatches to shame.
Below are the specifications of the LG Watch Urbane. Have a look:

It is a unisex watch, and LG claims that it will “add style and convenience to everyday life”. LG Watch Urbane will definitely be a threat to other Android smartwatches, but the question I want to raise is whether it will be a threat to the Apple iWatch or not. Apple’s entering the smartwatch market will definitely change the landscape of the market, but with the smartwatches like Watch Urbane, I would say that Apple will be facing a tough competition. And in the Android world, the OEM’s sometimes follow each other trends, so in future we might expect Samsung and Motorola creating watches with style and sophistication in them as well.
Some may believe that smartwatches are here to replace the luxury watches, but it may or may not happen. Luxury watches like Rolex, Omega and few others cost a fortune to buy and they have a huge influence on person’s status. For example, you might not see a CEO of multi-billionaire dollar firm wearing a smartwatch, but in future, if smartwatches achieves the status of a ‘luxury’, we might see brands like Tag-Heuer producing smartwatches as well, but let’s just say there is time in that.
