In the aftermath of the humiliating loss against England, the BCCI had brought in a few changes in Indian cricket’s whole set up. Not to stop at that, BCCI is now bringing in a restriction on wives and girlfriends of players joining the squad on away journeys.
It has been reported that BCCI has made its stance clear on the matter stating that the players would no more be allowed to take girlfriends along with them and also has effected heavier restrictions on the duration of stay of spouses.
Wives and girlfriends accompanying the players have been in focus when Indian batsmen failed to put a decent performance during the England tour.
A top BCCI official said, ““The England tour has been an eye-opener for everyone. From whatever information we have gathered, it’s been seen that even if players wanted to focus on their cricket, their wives were being a big distraction.
“When some wanted to go to the gym or do nets, they couldn’t do so because their wives wanted to explore the city.
“So we have planned that after this England series, we will curb the number of days the wives spend with their husbands on tour”.
Virat Kohli was at the centre of maximum criticism after being credited with one of the most upsetting performances of his career.
Kohli tagging his girlfriend actress and model Anushka Sharma along was ridiculed by BCCI.
BCCI on an official statement said that the spouses of players proved to be a major distraction for the players during the net sessions.
The Board said the number of days player’s wives could spent on an away tour will be restricted, much like to the method adopted by the England and Australian cricket boards.
