The director of the Martin Luther King historical movie “Selma”, Ava DuVernay, will again team up with the lead star David Oyelowo for her next movie which, according to her, will be sweeping love story and complex murder mystery set up against the backdrop of the hugely destructive Atlantic tropical cyclone in 2005, Hurricane Katrina.
“I’m thrilled to reunite with my Participant family on this project and fortunate to work again with the always exquisite David Oyelowo,” explained DuVernay, who previously worked with the company on 2012’s “Middle of Nowhere” (which also starred Oyelowo).
“The story we’re interested in will explore the complexities of intimate relationships within times of chaos, while also examining the chaos itself. I’m looking forward to the journey,” she said.
The untitled movie will be written produced and directed by the 42 year old DuVernay, whose latest release “Selma” was nominated for Best Picture inspite of her not getting nominated for the Best Director category.
This will be the third time DuVernay- Oyelowo will be coming together for a project- the previous two being “Middle of Nowhere” and “Selma.” Both of them were finalists at this year’s Golden Globes.
“Hurricane Katrina is one of the most important social and environmental stories of our time,” said Participant’s King.
“Ava DuVernay has shown herself to be highly skilled at bringing intimacy and contemporary urgency to epic events. We have been looking for the right way to get back in business with Ava, and with David Oyelowo, and are proud to re-team with them on her original idea, which we believe will be a powerful film.”
Without divulging too many details, DuVernay said the story will touch upon the complexities of intimate relationships during times of chaos and widespread destruction all around.
