An unprecedented event, a rare genetic imbroglio had left a 17 year old teen, who had the body of an aged woman. Lately, the 17 year old Hayley Okines breathed her last. She had the disease of progeria which led to the body disintegrating into that of an aged, early in her teens.
Rate Of Body Growth Was 8 Times Than Any Other Human
The rate at which this disintegration or development occurs is around eight times quicker than any other average mortal. This may seem unfortunate, but she was dubbed the tag of 100-year-old British teenager.
Okines Was Treated, Though In Vain
Okines had sought due treatment but none worked out great. She had been hospitalized lately; however she went back to her home, prior to her untimely death. In a BBC report, Okines’ mother Kerry announced about her child’s death last Thursday night. She stated in pain yet satisfaction that her baby went to a better place; Hayley was in her arms, when she breathed her last at 9:39pm.
Progeria Foundation Mourned Okines’ Death
Progeria Research Foundation commented in a note posted on Facebook’s social forum that the entire family mourns the untimely death of Hayley Okines and bid her good bye. They dubbed her as smart, spirited and beautiful English Rose. They also added in the post that Hayley Okines may have gone away from sight, but her memories still lingers as she had touched every heart at the foundation, when alive, and hence, all and sundry at the foundation and Progeria family would miss her.
Documentaries, Books And Publications
Okines had revealed her insightful and rare life conditions in two books namely, “Young At Heart” and “Old Before My Time”. She had thoroughly discussed the nitty gritties about progeria in her interviews. The books were released in time, before she passed away. She has also featured in a number of documentaries; one of them being “The Child Who’s Older Than Her Mother.” The Mirror revealed that these attentions brought some fame to Okines.
