In celebration of its 100th issue, V magazine teamed with Britney Spears to appear on its March issue cover, marking the second time the outlet has chosen the 34-year-old pop star. First appearing in 2011, Spears is now again in full display thanks to Mario Testino, who took the shots for the magazine. The star is seen wearing a Balmain bodysuit along with a Tavik swimsuit, a set of stockings and Christian Louboutin heels.
Editor-in-chief Stephen Gan explained why Spears was selected to represent the magazine’s 100th issue. “When looking for cover worthy subjects for our 100th issue, we had to ask ourselves, Who do pop stars and musicians — who have become an integral part of what V represents — look up to and admire?” he stated on the magazine’s official website. “There was only one answer: Britney! She has entered icon status, and who in our world did not grow up listening to her music?” Gan continued.
The mother of two also opened up to writer John Norris, whom had interviewed her in 1999 when her career was in its infancy. Topics included the rise of social media and technological advances compared to life back in the late 1990s, to which Spears replied bluntly. “Honestly, I still don’t use my computer,” says the mom of two. “My kids use the computer more than I do! I understand that a lot of people are into it, and I have days when I write and stuff, but it’s really not for me.”
Given her iconic status, she was also asked to comment on what life is like and what it means to always be on the spotlight. “Whoever is in the spotlight, people are really quick to judge. I mean, there are a lot of kids coming up who’ve experienced that. You know, Justin Bieber, he’s huge, and he experiences that. It’s just the way the world works, unfortunately. I’ve been doing this for 20 years,” the singer said. “I kind of don’t pay attention to it. I have my relationship with God and myself and that’s what matters to me. I really don’t care what most people think.”
