Angelina Jolie stole the show at this year’s Kid’s Choice Awards with a powerful empowerment message to the crowd in attendance. While accepting the Villain award for her movie role in Maleficient, the actress admitted that being different is good as she continues to inspire women with public candor about her health.
The actress and filmmaker disclosed earlier in the week that she had undergone a surgery aimed at preventing cancer. She admitted to having been pushed to the corner when she was young by being told she was different.
“I was told I was different, and I felt out of place: too loud, too full of fire, never good at sitting still, never well at fitting in,” said Jolie.
She encouraged the young folks in attendance to never feel out of place whenever rebuked for being different.
“Smile and hold your head up and be proud” adding with a wink “cause a little trouble. It’s good for you”
Jolie had revealed earlier in the week that she had her ovaries’ and fallopian tubes removed in the hope of reducing her risk of cancer. She had also revealed that she possess a defective breast cancer gene that puts her at a high risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. Jolie had to have healthy breasts removed in a bid to avoid the same fate as her mother and maternal grandmother who died of ovarian cancer.
Some of the big winners at the Nickelodeon channel’s awards included Emma stone who scooped the best actress award for her role in “the Amazing Spider-Man 2” and family TV show Modern Family. Male singer award went to Nick Jonas but ended up being drenched in the ceremony’s trademark green slime.
Other celebrities taking part in the ceremony included Jamie Foxx, Chris Rock as well as Kevin James.
