Ever since Indian markets started generating interest for mid-range and new smartphone models, a cluster of smartphones has been making its debut in India before reaching out to the rest of the world.
Android One was an example, and now following the lineage is Microsoft with its new Lumia.
It was only a couple of weeks ago that Microsoft made news by announcing its first ever post-Nokia smartphone. Lumia 535 will be the first to feature the Microsoft brand name by skipping the Nokia labeling from its build.
And, with the recent event rumors floating around, it’s believed that the device would be making its entry first to the Indian markets.
An event scheduled for today will bring in the smartphone announcement. Speculations were rife ever since Microsoft teased the event with some lavishing reference to the number 5.
Microsoft’s interest had largely been revolving around mid-range phones that eye customers in search for a prime smartphone experience.
Lumia 535, which has been announced for a cost of $140, could well fit in with the demands of Indian markets. And hints are indeed that Microsoft would be further ushering the affordable category.
Tuula Rytilä, senior vice president of marketing for phones at Microsoft, has been quoted as saying that the company is willing to push forward the challenge to market leaders in the affordable segment as well as in the high-end segment.
