“Kashi Vision” Gets Google And Facebook Consultants, Thanks To PM Modi
Modi’s plans to revive and fund Varanasi for pilgrimage rejuvenation and tourism are known to the world. Now the Indian Prime Minister has roped in Google, Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg and other tech giants for turning Kashi into the hub of culture.
The Economic Times has reported: “Among those said to be working on the project is Google, apart from professionals and consultants engaged in identifying tourism hotspots in and around Varanasi, beautification, landscaping, mapping the city for better movement and security.”
With sewage and lack of maintenance being among the major problems of Varanasi, it was expected of Modi that he would do something phenomenal for the city that also happens to be his Lok Sabha constituency.
The maiden Modi budget had allocated an Rs 6,300-plus crore fund, exclusively for the ‘Namami Ganga’ plan. Of the money, Rs 2037 crores are assigned for the river, while Rs 4200 crore has been announced for developing navigation corridor in coming six years. Also, the budget had allocated Rs 100 crore for the development of the ghats and bettering of the waterfronts.
Understandably, a good chunk of the money will be given to Varanasi. As a part of his efforts, Modi has coined ‘Kashi Vision’, which is expected to have its launch anytime.
Modi had tweeted, “I will represent Varanasi in Lok Sabha & I look forward to this wonderful opportunity to serve Ganga Maa & work for Varanasi’s development.”
He had further posted, “India will become a Jagat Guru when Varanasi becomes Rashtra Guru. Lets work together to create a developed Varanasi”
Varanasi might soon see some happening with other makeover schemes that are underway.
Strangely, there is no mention of what Google or Facebook experts would do for the new ‘Kashi Vision’, but given Modi’s inclination to technology, social media will form a major part of his plans.
