American Idol is undoubtedly the most popular musical reality show which the United States Television Industry has ever witnessed. As per reports, this popular show is coming to an end after its 15th season which will be aired in January 2016. This news was revealed by Fox Television officials on Monday.
‘American Idol’ was once the rating power house of Fox, and it has a viewership of more than 30 million in the past. But in the course of years, the popularity of the show diminished, and this might have compelled the channel officials to call it an end.
The show has played a crucial role in launching the careers of renowned entertainment figures like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
American Idol’s 2014 finale was backed with the support of just 10.6 million viewers, but their competitor’s NBC ‘The Voice’ succeeded in garnering the support of 11.6 million.
Ryan Seacrest will host the show last season, and the judging panel will be comprised of renowned names like Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick.
‘American Idol’ is the spin off of British Musical reality show, ‘Pop Idol’ which was aired in between 2001 – 2003. The success of American Idol compelled many channel owners in various countries to replicate the same idea. Some of the popular spin offs of American Idol includes, ‘Indian Idol’, ‘Australian Idol’, ‘Latin American Idol’ etc.
