New U2 album and tour in the works

Musical group U2 announced they are working on a new album along with a tour to debut in 2017. Their newest project is a follow-up to 2014’s Songs of Innocence.

Bono, 56, has even stated that the album will be stronger than their 1983 LP, War. While the exact release and touring dates have not yet been revealed, he assured fans they won’t have to wait long.

Bono told the Facebook fan page U2 en España: “It’s not finished yet but you will like it. In terms of lyrics it is stronger than ‘War‘, it has more clarity. The second part of the tour is for 2017… You might see a few things in September or October though.”

The band’s guitarist, 54-year-old The Edge, had previously confirmed the new record would be a companion to their last studio album. They have also had a hard time picking which tracks to include due to having so much material.

“We always envisaged that it would be a two-record set. It’s a companion album to ‘Songs of Innocence.’

We are trying to really be brutal with the material and only focus on the things that we’re really convinced are the best ideas.”

He also stated the album is now in the editing stages, adding: “I would say we’re now at the point of starting to really edit down to the core collection of songs that will make the record. Things are still in their rough state, but sounding really great.”

Rumors suggest that the new album will be titled Songs of Experience. Their last work was allegedly distributed for free on iTunes, though the band hasn’t yet revealed their plans for the latest project.
