Johnny Depp gives first public interview since Amber Heard filed for divorce

Johnny Depp joined his musical group, Hollywood Vampires, for an interview with Jonesy’s Jukebox last weekend.

The 53-year-old made no mention of his divorce and court proceedings regarding his soon-to-be ex-wife, Amber Heard. She was recently granted a restraining order against Depp and the couple’s divorce continues to make headlines.

During the interview, he spoke about being a musician and how it was part of his life from a young age. “I’ve [been a musician] since I was little – since I was 12 I’ve played. I started playing clubs when I was like 13 in Miami,” Depp revealed.

The actor also admitted he actually got into acting by chance, as his career path was partly unplanned. “I needed to pay rent. Somebody said, ‘Why don’t you go meet an agent. My agent is with Nick Cage,’ so she sent me on an audition for something and I got it.” Not only did it help him pay such pressing bills, he eventually turned out to be one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star did not consider acting as a full-time job until his band broke up, adding, “It seemed like a good way to pay the rent for a minute.”

Depp and the group are scheduled to start a U.S. tour in July.

Meanwhile, Heard’s restraining order against him is still active pending a court hearing for a permanent restraining order. The hearing is set for August 15 and 16.
