New ‘Baywatch’ movie pays homage to Pamela Anderson’s character

The upcoming Baywatch movie is paying homage to Pamela Anderson’s memorable character C.J. Parker.

The 48-year-old actress played the charismatic lifeguard in the television series from 1992 to 1997. She was later given the chance to reappear by the new movie’s producers, joining the likes of Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.

Anderson told ET Canada: “They called me to be in the film, and it was kind of an homage and a sweet thing for them to do. [But] I shouldn’t give too much away!”

She also had some sweet words to say about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, adding: “Dwayne is the sweetest guy, he’s so sweet in person. I guess I had met him plenty of times, but I didn’t remember.”

The 44-year-old actor had previously announced Anderson’s role via Instagram, writing: “She introduced the world to “CJ Parker” and became one of the most iconic characters of a generation – for the most successful TV show of all time. A pleasure to welcome (as gorgeous as ever) Pamela Anderson to our #BAYWATCH cast. We couldn’t have made this movie without you. Welcome home. Thrilled you had a blast with us! (sic)”

Baywatch was penned by Damian Shannon along with Mark Swift. Meanwhile, filmmaker Seth Gordon will serve as director.

Starring Dwayne Johnson, the movie sees him teaming up with a young lifeguard (Efron) to help protect a California beach from environmental hazards caused by a greedy oil tycoon. David Hasselhoff is also set to make an appearance, giving the original series’ fans some nostalgic reactions.

The film is scheduled for release in 2017.
