Lady Gaga met the Dalai Lama on Sunday

While the Dalai Lama was at the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Indianapolis, Lady Gaga had the opportunity to meet with His Holiness. She had the honor of asking him questions chosen from social media and the entire meeting between the two was streamed on Facebook Live.

The meeting of the two was titled The Global Significance of Building Compassionate Cities: Kindness Makes it Happen. While chatting, they joked about their age difference. He said, “I’m one 81-year-old person with quite a lot of experiences. My experiences much bigger than your experiences.” Lada Gaga, who is 30-years-old, made the Dalai Lama laugh by saying, “You didn’t know this, but I’m much older than you.”

During the 20-minute conversation, Lady Gaga also added: “As we’re busy trying to figure out which group is causing the problem, evil is winning…we have to change the perspective. We need to educate them. You have the power to be kind to them.”

The Dalai Lama replied: “We are a social animal, so individuals’ future depends entirely on the community. Once a tragic situation happens, don’t avoid – but look at it more deeply and widely. Many positive, happy things are there if you look from a wider perspective. If you look real closely, it appears unbearable. But if you look widely you see other positive things there.” He also said, “Once (a) tragic situation happens, not avoid– (but) look at more deeply, widely. Many positive, happy things are there if you look (from a) wider perspective. If you look real closely, it appears unbearable. But if you look widely (you see) other positive things there.”
