A man by the name of Norman Yates Carthens reportedly filed documents claiming Prince had adopted him. The man says Prince left at least $7 million of his estate to him, but could not tell officials at a probate court where the will is.
Carthens insists the will exists and will prove his link to the singer. “My dad was giving me 7,000,000 [sic]. So I’m putting a $7,000,000 claim on the estate because I’m a heir and I have proof,” according to NBC News.
A woman by the name of Regina Sorenson had also filed documents claiming to be a half-sister of Prince and should be included as an heir. The late singer’s assets have an estimated worth of around $300 million.
As a result of these developments, a Minnesota judge gave any other potential heir to come forward no later than June 10. These cases will then be reviewed by special administrator Bremer Trust.
The late artist’s sister, Tyka Nelson, says her brother did not have the chance to write a will following his untimely demise in April. To date, however, she and several half-siblings have taken the necessary steps to claim part of his estate.
The focus recently shifted from Prince’s fortunes after autopsy results concluded he had died of an opioid fentanyl overdose, which was already speculated by those close to him and the mainstream media. The special administrator of his estate could use DNA testing to prove who the late star’s siblings are, although Carthens’ case is naturally more difficult to assess.
