Workout star Richard Simmons checked out of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Saturday night following “bizarre conduct” and behavior, which prompted medical care at the facility. The 67-year old had become incoherent, raising concerns from his housekeeper, who called 911 as a result.
Emergency personnel felt he should go to the hospital in fear of Simmons suffering from something potentially life-threatening such as a stroke, dementia, or other serious condition.
Simmons has since attributed his behavior to dehydration following high temperatures in California, his state of residence.
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and concern after hearing I was in the hospital. I was dehydrated and needed some fluids and now I am feeling great!” Simmons announced on Sunday through his publicist.
The workout guru’s Twitter account remained active during his stay, but no one is sure who was maintaining it.
Approximately three months ago, friends of Simmons told the media they feared he was being held against his will at his home by his live-in housekeeper, Teresa Reve. She has been friends with Simmons for many years, leading him to allow media outlets to conduct a phone interviews to clear her name.
Simmons stated that his time out of the spotlight was of his own doing. “This is how I want to live my life right now. And to all the people that are worried about me, please don’t be. If I was in any trouble, if I was hurting in any way, I would reach out. It is time right now for Richard Simmons to take care of Richard Simmons.”
