Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama have decided to end their long-time relationship of six years.
Both stars explained to their fans that they are calling it quits via a joint statement posted on Instagram. “After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship. This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, be we realized more than anything that we are better as best friends. We will always be supportive of one another. Thank you to everyone who has offered us kindness and support over the years,” the statement read.
The two had started dating in 2010, when Demi was still a teenager. Shortly after, Lovato entered drug rehab for s short while. In an interview with Cosmopolitan in September 2015, she revealed that the only time they broke up was while going through a relapse, though remaining vague, adding, “whether it was drugs or in a bad place or rebelling against everybody.” Valderrama stayed by her side through her struggles.
“People told him, ‘You should probably leave. She’s on a spiral, and you’re going to be sucked down with it.’ But he was like, ‘I’m not leaving. This is somebody I really care about.’ We relate on a lot of levels,” she continued.
Lovato and Valderrama attended the Billboard Music Awards several weeks ago and were photographed together. A few days later, they were seen romantically again when she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. Whether they were considering to break up during that time is not yet known.
