It was recently confirmed that Star Wars’ Ewan McGregor will be at the center of Noah Hawley’s anthology series, Fargo, during its third season.
The latest chapter revolves around Emmit Stussy, a real estate entrepreneur and American success story. His younger, less successful brother, Ray, blames the business man for his failures and looks to provoke an already-rocky relationship as a result.
Although not much is yet known, the third season is rumored to take place in 2010 and somewhat follow the show’s first season storyline.
That said, Hawley made it clear that none of the first season’s characters will reappear. “None of the main characters from our first year will be back for our third year.”
He then continued, “As much as I love those actors and characters, the dangers of bringing them back and putting them through their paces for another sort of crazy case is that then the artifice of the whole thing becomes too clear, and suddenly it just feels like we’re doing it because it’s fun and we like them, but we’ve broken our own rules.”
“That’s not to say that one of our stories might not intersect with characters we’ve seen before for a certain period of time,” Hawley clarified.
This will be McGregor’s first-ever TV role playing a regular character. One of his most recent (and well-known) roles include Obi-Wan Kenobi in 2015’s Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
Production is set to start later this year, with FX planning to debut the latest season sometime in 2017.
