After Drew Barrymore’s recent separation from Will Kopelman, the 41-year-old actress opened up about the entire situation. Barrymore appeared on Chelsea Handler’s new Netflix show premiere to explain her feelings about the breakup.
When news of the separation got out, Barrymore and Kopelman released a statement to People saying, “Sadly our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family. Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on. The joint statement continued, “Our children are our universe, and we look forward to living the rest of our lives with them as the first priority.”
Barrymore has been married several times throughout her life. She often speaks candidly and did so about her separation from Kopelman. During her interview, she said, “When you break up with somebody, you’re like, ‘Yeah, that didn’t work.’ When you get divorced, you’re like, ‘I’m the biggest failure. This is the biggest failure.’ It’s so shameful and hard to actually go through that, even privately.”
Despite these circumstances, Barrymore feels that family, friends, and fans supported her through the process. “I have to say there has just been this really nice feeling of something very fluid and positive and the opposite of how I felt inside.” She further continued, “Everyone has just been so cool and chill and nice about everything that it quelled my own fears and demons.”
