The press, key politicians and a few Hollywood elite get to attend the White House Correspondents’ Dinner once a year. The event took place on Apr 30, 2016.
Dressed to impress, Michelle Obama looked stunning in Givenchy Couture, keeping up with a unique style that often makes the “best dressed” list for her many events.
The press included journalists from almost every print, Internet and television news outlet. Among these were Andrea Mitchell, Arianna Huffington, Walter Issacson and Megan Kelly, now famous for her tough questioning during one of Donald Trump’s republican debates. Meanwhile, celebrities Kelly Ripa, Kerry Washington, Jeff Goldblum, as well as Will and Jada Smith also attended. Others included Kendall Jenner and JC Chasez.
Seated next to Joe Biden was Helen Mirren. At age 70, the actress wore a purple gown and a tattoo on her collarbone with Prince’s well-known symbol as a tribute to the late singer.
As with each President’s comedic attempt at the closing speech of the evening, Obama’s last speech had its hilarious and relatively awkward moments. With a strong divide between political parties, the highly recognizable crowd laughed, mumbled and sometimes tried to hold back to respect those with opposing views.
The President joked about his recent meeting with Prince William by stating, “Last week, Prince George showed up to our meeting in his bath robe. That was a slap in the face — a breach of protocol.”
Even poking fun at Michelle Obama, his final correspondence dinner had mixed reviews, but overall was enjoyed by the audience. President Obama’s final words were, “Obama out” as he dropped the microphone.
