Rovio Entertainment is adding a game code within The Angry Birds Movie credits allowing access to an exclusive level of their latest game, Angry Birds Action!, which debuted earlier this year. The movie will debut on May 20th in The United States.
The exclusive game level will continue the movie’s main story and includes new and existing characters seen on the film. In addition, other “birdcodes” include a variety of power-ups and mini-games.
The Angry Birds Movie includes an impressive cast of both television and film actors. Personalities like Peter Dinklage, Sean Penn, Danielle Brooks and Blake Shelton have all contributed to the animated film. Meanwhile, Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad and Danny McBride have lent their voiceover talents to the movie’s three main characters.
Although there has been some concerns about AMC potentially introducing “text-friendly” theaters, the Rovio team strategically decided to display the code in the credits rather than disclosing it in the middle of the movie to minimize distractions.
Miika Tams of Rovio said, “It’s really about continuing the story. Everyone is usually distracted after watching a movie, but we wanted audiences to be distracted by wanting to go back into the game.”
The Angry Birds franchise has seen multiple iterations and spinoffs over the years, including comic books, television cartoons, toys and children’s books. With over three billion downloads to date, the franchise has been called “the largest mobile app success the world has seen so far” by critics.
