Miraculous: a Seattle newborn has life saved by harrowing heart transplant surgery

After in utero complications, several surgeries and a harrowing heart transplant, Seattle doctors have confirmed that they were able to save the life of 7-month-old Lincoln Seay. At certain times during the young boy’s short life, it looked as if he wasn’t going to survive.

According to ABC, Lincoln Seay was born in Anchorage, Alaska, in July of last year with a rare and life threatening birth defect called dextrocardia. The condition resulted in Lincoln being born with his heart oriented in the wrong direction. His body was not able to function correctly.

As soon as he was born, Lincoln required several heart surgeries in order to keep his heart pumping properly. The doctors did everything they could to save his life, but they weren’t exactly hopeful for his survival.

“They had even said he might not survive birth,” said Mindy Seay, Lincoln’s mother. When the boy did end up being born, her and her family were ecstatic. But they weren’t out of the woods yet.

Even after multiple surgeries on the new born, his condition began to worsen. So Mindy and her husband Rob moved their family from Anchorage to Seattle in order to receive more treatment.

Lincoln needed a heart transplant. He was on the list for five months before, miraculously, a donor appeared.

However, just before it came time for his surgery, the boy went into cardiac arrest. However, Seattle surgeon Dr. Michael McMullen and his team were able to successfully complete the surgery in time.

Not only did Lincoln survive, he is now healthier than ever.

“His color is incredibly different, it’s pink and vibrant and he woke up with so much energy,” said his mother Mindy.

“We joked, ‘he woke up thinking he was the Hulk.”
