You may be looking for a smartphone with a top-flight camera, or maybe one that runs the latest gaming apps. But if privacy is your top priority, encryption company Silent Circle has a new smartphone for you.
The Blackphone 2 is the newly redesigned model of the world’s first smartphone built with privacy as its top priority, according to a Fast Company story. The phone runs on a modified version of Google’s Android technology intended to add a layer of privacy-consciousness combined with Silent Circle’s proprietary operating system, with apps that users can modify as needed.
The 32 gigabite phone includes encryption so users can make secure calls and send secure emails, texts, file transfers and even video conferencing. The phone retails for $799, about the rpice of an unlocked Apple iPhone 5S.
With more and more companies stressing security issues, and more and more employees using their personal phones for business, the phone allows separate workspaces for business and recreational uses and allows for greater user control of any data that runs through the phone. Silent Circle expects high interest in the new phone from corporate executives and businesses, as well as government employees and celebrities, and is aiming to compete with Blackberry for those markets.
