Apple watch, quite the rage among gadget freaks across the world at present, has been found to be malfunctioning on heavily tattooed arms. Early adopters of this latest product by Apple say they are forced to enter their security code repeatedly as the device keeps locking time and again on inked up arms.
The bug which was first pointed out by Redditor guinne55fan was confirmed by scores of other users of this Apple flagship watch from all over the world. Guinne55fan had complained that his watch would regularly lose connection while also reporting inaccurate heart rate results.
The problem has surfaced only a few days after its much awaited launch.
“So I thought my shiny new 42mm SS watch had a bad wrist detector sensor,” guinne55fan wrote. “The watch would lock up every time the screen went dark and prompted me for my password. I wouldn’t receive notifications. I couldn’t figure out why especially since the watch was definitely not losing contact with my skin.”
To confirm whether it was actually the inked pattern on his arm which was causing the problem, he later held the watch across his hand. And saw it functioning normally as he did so. “My hand isn’t tattooed and the Watch stayed unlocked. Once I put it back on the area that is tattooed with black ink the watch would automatically lock again.”
Tattoos in darker colors seem to cause more problems than lighter colored ones. Experts have pointed out that ‘The problem should have been foreseeable – Apple has already explained that it measures heart rate by analysing light absorption through the skin.’
There have been other issues with the watch too, says guinne55fan. “Spotty notifications with messages, no email notifications, I can receive calls on the watch but I can’t make them, those issues are bothering me more,” he said but added that Apple support had helped him address those.
Apple has not yet commented on malfunctions caused due to tattoos.
